SkyTeam’s New Frankfurt Lounge Offers a 550m² Front-Row Seat to the Tarmac

SkyTeam unveils a stunning 550m² lounge at Frankfurt Airport, offering travelers panoramic tarmac views, premium amenities, and a next-level airport experience.

The SkyTeam alliance has opened a new lounge in Frankfurt Airport's (FRA) Terminal 3. The new alliance operated space is the only SkyTeam branded facility to open in Europe. Simple Flying met SkyTeam CEO, Patrick Roux, to celebrate the opening of this new facility.

Business, First, and status passengers travelling with the SkyTeam alliance have access to over 750 lounges across the world. However, there are only a handful of lounges specifically operated by the alliance themselves. The same holds true for oneworld and Star Alliance. The network of SkyTeam operated facilities just got a little bit bigger.

SkyTeam's new Frankfurt Airport lounge serves the non-Schengen area in Terminal 3. The space is 5,920 sq ft (550 m²), and has space for 126 guests. The facility is divided into different seating zones including a relaxation room and VIP area. The facility has a more premium feel, with a live-cooking station, a staffed bar, and showers for those looking to refresh.

In my opinion, the standout feature of the lounge was the large floor to ceiling windows on the far wall. These not only bathe the room in natural sunlight, but also provide one of the best airside views at Frankfurt Airport, with the stunning Taunus Mountains in the background. Commenting on the design of the facility, Roux told me,

"What we try to convey in our SkyTeam lounges is the spirit of the international touch of what SkyTeam is, a worldwide alliance to convey a touch of both quietness and efficiency to make sure that the customers can relax, can get fantastic recharge, food and drink. But also all that with a local touch. So everywhere in the world, we try to be local and to have sourcing products, chefs that bring a local experience to our international passengers."

Seven Airlines Have Access To The Area

The new SkyTeam lounge is located in the non-Schengen area of Terminal 3, meaning passengers of Air Europa, Air France, KLM, SAS, and TAROM will not be able to use the facility. The shift to Terminal 3 will happen in stages, giving the following SkyTeam passengers access,

Airline

Date

China Airlines

April 23

China Eastern

April 23

Korean Air

April 23

Saudia

April 23

Middle East Airlines

May 5

Delta Air Lines

May 19

Vietnam Airlines

May 19

According to Roux, Frankfurt was the perfect airport to launch a new alliance lounge for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the new terminal offered a blank slate for development. However, the mix of airlines was perfect. As Roux put it,

"among the seven members flying non-Schengen, there was none that was strong enough to have their own lounge. So that's why it was a good opportunity to have SkyTeam."

The mix of airlines means that the space will also never get too busy, with non-Schengen departures spread fairly evenly throughout the day.
